The Second International Leadership Institute of the Holy Land Christian Ecumenical Foundation (HCEF) will be conducted on Friday October 22, 2004, 8:30am-12:30 p.m. at Metropolitan Memorial United Methodist Church, Washington, D.C.  The Leadership Institute will immediately precede the 6th International HCEF Conference that will run October 22-23.

The HCEF Leadership Institute was successfully inaugurated at the 2003 HCEF International Conference.  The basic purposes of the Institute are:

* Identify, develop and charge new leaders for HCEF;
* Reenergize and enhance the skills of current HCEF leaders towards greater impact on the HCEF mission and influence on other leaders;
* Create a leadership structure of self support for HCEF and its Holy Land Christian Support Network;
* Help develop momentum for local Committee programs;
* Provide clear paths for those wishing to increase their commitment to HCEF and its programs.

At the inaugural Institute, most of the emphasis was placed on orienting new leaders to the scope and mission of HCEF and its programs, identifying specific leadership positions available to be filled, presenting a basic leadership paradigm for non-profits that can be effective, and discussions of how the Institute can be a pipeline for feeding effective leaders into the HCEF movement around the world.

HCEF has made much progress over the past year.  A number of individuals have stepped up to take on significant new leadership responsibilities at all levels of HCEF.

This year’s Institute will focus less on the theoretical and more on applied leadership that can impact achievement of the HCEF mission.  Because HCEF is in need of leaders of all ages, this year a leadership track for young leaders (teens through early twenties) will be added.

The agenda will include an overview of HCEF progress during the past year along with a new proposed organizational structure, case studies of applied leadership initiatives in HCEF, effective ways of leveraging media and other communications tools on behalf of local efforts, and an open dialogue on the role of the Institute in the ongoing progress of HCEF.  Further, there will be opportunities to discuss individual interests in leadership on behalf of HCEF with experienced individuals.

Candidates for the Institute should be individuals who have had previous contact with HCEF, have at least a general knowledge of HCEF, its mission and programs, feel a commitment or openness to explore their talents to lead on behalf of HCEF at some level, and would be willing to step up their spiritual, talent and time commitments to making HCEF a success and serving Christians in the Holy Land.

Application can be made by e-mail or letter to Stephen Corbin, HCEF Board of Directors at: leader@hcsn.org, or mailed to HCEF, 6935 Wisconsin Ave, Suite 214, Bethesda, MD 20815
