Two speakers from the Holy Land will discuss the latest information about the conditions of the occupation by Israeli Defense Forces in the Holy Land. Ecumenical Prayer Vigil for Peace in the Middle East Thursday, March 22, 2001 7:30 – 8:30 p.m. Saint Columba’s Episcopal Church 4201 Albemarle Street NW, Washington, DC The people of metropolitan Washington, DC are invited to participate in a service of prayer for the Christian communities in the Holy Land, for all those who are suffering in the area, and for peace in the Middle East. Two speakers from the Holy Land will discuss the latest information about the conditions of the occupation by Israeli Defense Forces in the Holy Land. Father Emil Salayta is the Director of Education for the Latin Patriarchate in Jerusalem. Father Salayta has had extensive experience with developing projects that assist in maintaining a Christian presence in the land of Christianity’s birth. Fr. Dr. Majdi Syriani is the Legal Counsel for the Latin Patriarchate, Jerusalem. Father Majdi is an expert on the matters related to the Palestinian Right of Return. Both men are in the United States on a speaking tour and will speak at The Holy Land Christian Ecumenical Foundation’s Symposium in Detroit on March 31, 2001. This ecumenical prayer service is the third of monthly gatherings in metropolitan Washington. Churches in the District of Columbia and Maryland will continue to hold special prayers for the Middle East on the twenty-second of each month until the violence ends and a just and lasting peace agreement between Palestinians and Israelis is reached. Similar prayer vigils are taking place across the country.
