Dear Rateb and Dear all,

We are watching with broken hearts and still unable to believe the horrifying images coming from the site of the horrible terrorist attacks…The numbers of the innocent souls upon which death was unjustly inflected is deeply troubling us and saddening us today…Our students all over our schools started their day today by a special prayer for the souls of all those innocent people and their families and friends…

As you know Rateb, America is our second home- at least for millions of us Middle Eastern people here- and we hate to see this happen there especially when thousands of innocent people are paying the heavy toll…and who knows how many of our beloved family members and friends were among the victims…Rateb, it is not true that Palestinians were celebrating…they’re sad and traumatized…no one, even the meanest soul, would ever be able not to be, in front of this monumental tragedy…this runs so counter to our character and nature as human beings first and as already big-time haunted-by-terrorism people…What happened is a nightmare also for us Palestinians…If anything, it takes us back to the point zero in our struggle for freedom and self-determination… This is the general feeling among Palestinians today: Trauma, condemnation, sadness, worry and concern about our beloved brothers and sisters in the US. We, in our schools, are having special services for the rest of the soul of all the innocent people who had to pay this horrible toll…

Finally, as I express my personal heartfelt sympathy and deepest concern and grief, and those of my staff at the Schools Dept and the Prog. Develop. Dept., please tell our friends that we are mourning with them and that we are praying for them…

Yours in Christ
Fr. Majdi Siryani
