Kafr el-Dawar – The Coptic Catholic Church of Kafr el-Dawar, dedicated to the Virgin Mary and officiated by the Franciscan fathers, was attacked in the early hours of the day by armed men who used an explosive device against the place of worship and wounded two policemen guarding the sacred building. This was reported to Agenzia Fides by Bishop Adel Zaki OFM, Apostolic Vicar of Alexandria for the Catholics of the Latin rite.

"According to preliminary reports – says Mgr. Zaki – the armed assault was carried out at three in the morning. The injured policemen were taken to the city hospital. The episode – adds the Catholic Bishop – is to be linked to other attacks carried out against different objectives, which in my opinion are designed to give the impression that Egypt is an insecure and destabilized country. Maybe one wants to send signals of this type in view of the International Conference of aid to Egypt, to be held in Sharm el Sheikh next March 13".
The town of Kafr el-Dawar is located in the Nile Delta, in Lower Egypt, about 20 km from Alexandria.
