Pope Francis on Thursday welcomed the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Mohammed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al-Nahyan. Abu Dhabi is one of seven emirates that constitute the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

At the end of the private audience, the Prince presented the Holy Father with an Afghan tapestry, which arrived from Afghanistan as part of a charitable project run his daughter.

The Pope gave the Prince a medallion depicting the ‘Tree of Peace,’ telling him “peace is our vocation.”

A Tweet issued the office of Prince Mohamed bin Zayed said the UAE “values Pope Francis’s efforts to confront violence and extremism.”

After the meeting with the Pope, the delegation met with the Cardinal Secretary of State, Pietro Parolin.

A tweet from the office of the Prince said they discussed “enhancing bilateral ties,
