After a brief trip to Canada from the United States, Father Emil Salayta, a Roman Catholic priest of the Latin Patriarchate in Jerusalem, was detained at the Toronto Airport by the American INS on July 20, 2003. He was then interrogated for five hours by the Immigration Officials. During the detention, Fr. Salayta was questioned under oath, fingerprinted, photographed and searched. Fr. Salayta was on his way back from appearing on the Catholic TV network program in Toronto. He was to meet with the Patriarchate of Jerusalem, HB Michel Sabbagh and Fr. Drew Christensen, the Counsel to the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, in Chicago.

The Holy Land Christian Ecumenical Foundation (HCEF)* will hold a celebration in honor of Fr. Alex Kratz, OFM, who will soon be departing for the Holy Land. Also present will be Fr. Emil Salayta, Latin priest from the Diocese of Jerusalem, Fr. Majdi al-Siryani, the Director of the Latin School Administration, and Sir Rateb Rabie, KHS, President of HCEF, who will offer an informational presentation on the situation facing the Mother Church in the Holy Land. The event will be held on Saturday, July 12th 2003 from 10:30am-12:30 pm at St. Michael’s Church, 25231 Code Road, Southfield, MI 48034. All are encouraged to attend.

The Holy Land Christian Ecumenical Foundation (HCEF) will make a presentation about the Holy Land Christians at St. Aidan's Church, 3501 Finch Ave East, Toronto, Ontario, CANADA N1W2S2 on Saturday, July 19th, 2003. Sir Rateb Rabie, KHS, President of HCEF, will join Fr. Emil Salayta, HCEF co-founder and Latin Catholic priest from the Diocese of Jerusalem, and Fr. Majdi al-Siryani, the Director of the Latin Patriarchate Administration of Schools, in making the presentation at the church of Rev. Joseph Fenech, pastor of St. Aidan's. They will speak about the current situation in the Holy Land and the ministry of HCEF.
