    The Holy Land Christian Ecumenical Foundation announced today that Father Alex Kratz, OFM will receive the Holy Land Christian Ecumenical Foundation Award for his outstanding dedication to serving the Christians living in the Holy Land. 

    Father Kratz will be given his award at a banquet that celebrates the success of the partnership between the Archdiocese of Jerusalem and the Archdiocese of Detroit and other churches on May 22, 2004 at Madonna University. The banquet and the symposium is sponsored by the Holy Land Christian Ecumenical Foundation (HCEF), the Holy Land Christian Support Network (HCSN), the Catholic Archdiocese of Detroit, Madonna University, and The Detroit/Windsor Council of Churches. In attendance to present the award will be Latin Patriarch Michel Sabbah of Jerusalem.

    Father Kratz serves on the Board of Directors of the Holy Land Christian Ecumenical Foundation and was instrumental in achieving a pledge from the Archdioceses of Detroit to sponsor the education of 1500 children living in the Holy Land. 

    Father Kratz is a Franciscan priest who served as associate pastor of St. Michael's Parish in Southfield, Michigan before moving to the Holy Land where he is working for one year with the Latin School System in the Holy Land, also to study Arabic Language.

    Sir Rateb Rabie, KHS noted, "Father Kratz was the spark that made the Child Sponsorship Program a great success in Detroit and we are honored that he is a member of our Board of Directors."

    The Holy Land Christian Ecumenical Foundation (HCEF) was formed to provide humanitarian aid and succor to the Christians living under occupation in Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Ramallah and other Christian towns and villages in the Holy Land. In addition to the support for education in Christian schools, HCEF has sponsored job creation programs and church-to-church associations between Palestinian Christian churches and American churches and schools. HCEF has been successful in mobilizing Christians of all denominations throughout America to provide assistance for their fellow believers living in the Holy Land, the descendents of the original Christians who first heard Jesus Christ preach his message of peace and love.
