Benedict XVI, citing "positive signs" in the Holy Land, appealed for prayers and assistance to the peoples of the area so that reconciliation can take place.

The Pope addressed the situation in the Holy Land today when receiving in audience the participants in the general assembly of the Assembly of Organizations for Aid to the Eastern Churches (ROACO).

The Holy Father said there must be particular solicitude for Jerusalem and the Holy Land, "to which all Christians have an unforgettable debt."

"Some positive signs, which have come to us in these last months, make firmer the hope that the day will soon come of reconciliation between the different communities that work in the Holy Land," he added. "For this reason, we must not fail to pray with confidence."

ROACO is under the Vatican Congregation for Eastern Churches, which every year holds a collection on Good Friday for the Holy Land.
