After 40 years of occupation and 60 years of the displacement of the Palestinian people, we commemorate this day, November 29, to remember the Palestinian people and to join with them in solidarity in pursuit of their national aspirations.

This commemoration is now in its 30th year. “In 1977, the General Assembly called for the annual observance of 29 November as the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People (resolution 32/40 B).”[1]

This solidarity with the Palestinian people is essential now as they continue to face untold suffering, humiliation, land expropriation, imprisonment and death.

We hope that there is enough good will in the world on this day that all peace loving people are prepared to work for a positive change in the life of the people in the Holy Land and throughout the whole of the Middle East region.

We hope for encouraging developments from the Annapolis conference that will lead to justice and peace and join the call of His Holiness Benedict XVI along with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops for prayers for peace in Palestine and Israel, the Holy Land for all.

With continued hope for a better tomorrow,

    Caritas Jerusalem
