Arab Christian Role More Important Than Ever

alt The role of Arab Christians in the Middle East is more important today than ever before, the Palestinian bishop who leads the 70-million strong Lutheran World Federation has told a Danish church gathering.

"I believe that Arab and the Middle East Christians maintain a crucial balance in our society. They are the bridge builders, brokers of justice, defenders of human rights and gender equality, and most importantly, they are peacemakers," LWF president, Bishop Munib A. Younan, said.

alt The head of the Coptic Orthodox Church, His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark met with Pope Francis today in a historical meeting held in the Apostolic Palace today.

This is the first time in 40 years that a Coptic Pope has met with the Pope of Rome. On May 1973. Pope Shenouda III met with Pope Paul VI and signed an an important Christological Declaration in common and initiated bilateral ecumenical dialogue between the two Churches.

Press Release : An Appeal from the Patriarchs and Heads of Churches in Jerusalem, concerning the kidnapping of two Metropolitan bishops in Aleppo Syria- May 2013.

We, the Heads of Churches in Jerusalem, have been prayerfully following the ongoing violence, bloodshed, and conflict in Syria, which started in March 2011. Everyday tens or sometimes hundreds of people are killed because of the current conflict, and thousands are left without homes or shelters as they keep moving aimlessly in search of security, food and treatment.
