The Holy Land Gifts program was developed as a job creation project. It allows the Christian craftsman in and around Bethlehem to distribute their crafts despite the deteriorating economic conditions of the region. The lack of pilgrims, tourists, and consumers in general has interrupted the commerce at the Holy Sites and cities and left these craftsmen with no way to make a living.

Holy Land Gifts Program

Purpose of Program

HCEF is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit charitable organization.  HCEF has established the Holy Land Gifts program with the objective of maintaining the continued presence of Christians in the Holy Land by the following means:

* Promoting the Christian handicraft industry – especially in the Bethlehem region – by creating sustainable markets outside of the Holy Land;

* Educating Western Christians about the importance of supporting and developing the Christian handicraft sector of the economy, including education explaining the spiritual tradition of the work, its important role in local Christian heritage, and the economic impact it has on the life of the Christian community in the Holy Land;

* Connecting the handicraft industry in the Holy Land with church groups and not for profit organizations outside of the Holy Land so as to facilitate the initiation and development of programs that cater to the production, technical, and financial requirements of the handicraft sector; and

* Creating an authentic and consistent quality approach to the handicraft production process for Holy Land Gifts.
