Dear Friends and Supporters,

The City Council Members, the Municipality Staff and the Citizens of Beit Sahour join me to wish you a joyful Christmas and a Peaceful New Year.

Every time we send our Christmas Greetings we get a new hope in our hearts that the coming Christmas will bring peace and justice. So far, things look gloomier, yet we fight to maintain hope in the future, to live a peaceful life and to replace the fighting rifle with olive branches and war for love.

The Apartheid Wall that Israel is building for its supposed “security” is still depriving us from visiting the Holy places in Jerusalem. Preventing a lot of people access to their place of work, to seek medical attention and visit relatives, even collecting our own olives from our trees which are politically separated from us.

Christmas comes this year in the Holy Land with political and economic problems overburdening all of us. There is no peace and no actual willingness to engage in a serious negotiation to reach a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian- Israeli conflict.  However, despite all the difficulties we are going to celebrate Christmas in our special way.

Let’s pray for peace with justice and for freedom from oppression to our people and to all the people in the World.  May the spirit of this Christmas give us the strength to fulfill the wish for peace.

God Bless You All,

Hani Al- Hayek

Mayor of Beit Sahour
