Accompanied by the Mayor of Beit Sahour Mr Fouad Kokale, father William Shomali from the Latin Patriarchate, father George Daboub vicar priest of Beit Sahour and by many personalities from Beit Sahour, H.B. paid a long visit to some families whose houses were damaged by the last events. Beit Sahour is shelled almost every day by Israelis. It is their answer to the Palestinian stone throwing and shooting. They shell form air and land. Some 40 families from the quarter we visited flew and went to live by some parents in the center of the city where there is a little more safety. The Patriarch wanted to encourage Christians not to leave but to remain on their land since this is our vocation to live in the country of Jesus. After Beit Sahour His Beatitude had a long meeting with some Christian leaders, accompanied by the Parish priest Father Eugene Kamar and the director of Terra Santa College father Ibrahim Faltas.. They expressed their fears and their anxieties about the political and economic situation. If the situation continues this way, they said, many families will beg for bred and medicine, especially the families which live on a daily basis work. His Beatitude ended his tour by visiting the Christina Brothers of Bethlehem University who preferred to remain here despite the fact that their Consulate advised them to leave. They continue to teach and to give courses despite, not only the difficult financial situation, but also the fact that the students have many difficulties in come to the University from the neighboring villages and cities. This tour gave His Beatitude a clearer idea of the present situation and of the things to do in order to help the Christian community and the poor of the Holy Land. He attested also the love of the Church to all of them. Fr. William Shomali General Administrator of the Patriarchate
