Dr. Barnes, Senior Pastor of the Shadyside Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh, will address the important linkage between a vital Mother Church, the well-being of Christians in the Holy Land and prospects for peace in the region.

Over a decade ago, Dr. Barnes as Senior Pastor of the National Presbyterian Church in Washington, DC sounded the clarion call raising U.S. awareness of the deteriorating situation of the Mother Church in the Holy Land. Dr. Barnes has been a tireless champion for this cause ever since. Through his exemplary leadership, the National Presbyterian Church has become a leader, supporting numerous spiritual and economic initiatives for the Mother Church in the Holy Land.

HCEF President Rateb Rabie noted that “Dr. Barnes was among the first Christian leaders to challenge all American Christians to do something about the plight of the Christians. He has inspired many to commit themselves to this cause. It is his continuing conviction that Christians, Jews and Muslims can live together in harmony and peace in the Holy Land.”

On October 24, 2009, Dr. Barnes will speak to the criticality of supporting a vital, living Mother Church. He will show that this issue is not a theoretical abstraction. It has manifold ramifications not only for the Christian community in the Holy Land but has wide impact on the region’s diverse political and religious conflicts. The Christian community, more than any other, suffers from the ongoing conflict, yet, perhaps more than any other, it offers a hope for being a bridge for peace among the warring parties.
