On April 9, 2011 some 300 parish ministers and volunteers from across the Archdiocese of Washington came together for the Department of Charity and Justice Social Ministry Conference entitled Caring for Creation: Connecting with God’s Plan. HCEF hosted a workshop during the conference entitled ‘The Living Stones, Palestinian Christians, Witnesses for Christ in the Holy Land.

The attendees were urged “to deepen their calling as Disciples of Christ and implement Catholic social teaching through works of charity and justice.” Anthony Bosnick, Director of the Archdiocesan Office of Charity and Justice opened the conference. The Most Reverend Barry Knestout, Auxiliary Bishop of Washington was the principal celebrant and homilist during the Eucharistic celebration. Fr. Charlie Cortinovis was the keynote speaker. The venue was held at the DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, MD.

During their workshop presentation, Rateb Rabie, HCEF President/CEO and Dr. Hugh Dempsey, HCEF Vice-President focused on the plight of the Holy Land Christians and ways in which American Christians can offer support. They highlighted the many HCEF Initiatives and programs created to ameliorate the lives of these Christians and to encourage them to remain in the Holy Land. They also showed an HCEF DVD entitled “Our Faith In Action” which highlights the compelling stories of the life of the Palestinian Christians. In the film, visiting American clergy and pilgrims expressed the deep, personal affect the visits with Palestinian and other families in the holy Land had on them.
