Press Release – The Board of Directors of Caritas Jerusalem met at the Latin Patriarchate on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 and elected a new Secretary General. At the meeting with His Beatitude Fouad Twal, Latin Patriarch and President of Caritas were members of the Board: Bishop Joseph Jules Zerey (Greek Melkite Catholic Patriarchal Vicar of Jerusalem), Archbishop Moussa El-Hage (Maronite Patriarchal Exarch of Jerusalem), Rt. Rev. Arch. Joseph Kelekian (Armenian Catholic Patriarchal Exarch of Jerusalem and Amman), Very Rev. Pierbattista Pizzaballa, OFM (Custos of the Holy Land), and Claudette Habesch (Secretary General of Caritas Jerusalem).

After reviewing the situation of the Church in the Holy Land, the members present voted for the new Secretary General of Caritas Jerusalem. Of the seven candidates for the post, Father Raed Abusahliah, pastor of Ramallah was elected by a majority of votes. He succeeds Claudette Habesch. Members of the Executive Committee will be appointed at a later time. The Board of Directors thanked Claudette Habesch for her 26 years of dedicated service with Caritas Jerusalem.
