On March 8, 2014, the Birzeit Senior Citizen Center (BSCC) welcomed a delegation from the Palestinian Youth Union, visiting to celebrate International Women's Day. The celebration began inside the senior citizen center with speeches from the elderly that reflected on the essential value of women in Palestine today.

Eng. Anthony Habash, HCEF Regional Director, expressed his thoughts: “It is vital that we take the time to consider how our elderly women have helped sustain Palestinian life and culture. These women have endured through conflict and have dedicated their lives to their families and their land. Every one of them is a mother of Palestine, mothers to us all. This is something to celebrate, not just today, but every day as Palestine perseveres thanks to the diligence of its women.”

Young and old sang folk songs together and danced as the celebration continued. When the evening was coming to a close, the delegation of the Palestinian Youth distributed sweets and flowers to all the elderly in appreciation of their constant effort to care for the community.
