Mr. Hashim Hani Shawa, Chairman and General Manger of Bank of Palestine, will receive the 2014 HCEF Corporate Social Responsibility Award on Friday, October 17, 2014 at the HCEF Awards Banquet, held in conjunction with the 16th International Conference, Friday and Saturday, October 17-18, 2014.

Mr. Shawa is a successful businessman who left a promising career in the Diaspora in order to return home to Palestine and take leadership of his family business. Despite the many challenging and difficult conditions in which Palestine finds herself, Mr. Shawa always knew that bringing business there is good, that these challenges are an invitation to innovate and strive harder, and ultimately that great success is still possible in Palestine.

Under his leadership, the Bank of Palestine has worked toward the economic viability of Palestine as a sovereign state. Beyond this economic impact, Hashim has never forgotten his responsibility toward his people, being instrumental in ensuring that the bank dedicates more than $1.7 million annually towards the betterment of society through innovative projects in humanitarian aid and rehabilitation, youth development, education, sports, healthcare, arts, culture, and tourism.

Notably, Hashim is a founding member of  HCEF’s Know Thy Heritage Leadership Program for Palestinian Diaspora youth. The Bank of Palestine has been a generous sponsor of that program since its establishment as well as HCEF’s Annual International Conferences for the past four years. Sir Rateb Rabie, HCEF President/CEO, remarked: “The trust which Mr. Shawa has placed in HCEF and our board is an honor and an example to many others. Bank of Palestine has placed full faith in our integrity and dedication in order to pursue our mission.”

HCEF’s Corporate Social Responsibility Award was established to honor leaders of corporations and companies in the Middle East and elsewhere that generate a positive impact on Palestinians in the Holy Land and their communities beyond. These leaders set the tone by promoting values of integrity, accountability, fiscal responsibility, mutual respect, and regard for the common good, and by making decisions in support of educational institutions, small businesses, nongovernmental organizations, and communities that engage in good works beyond themselves.

The Corporate Social Responsibility Award is conferred on Mr. Hashim Shawa in recognition of his work, his dedication, and his remarkable efforts to improve Palestinian society. HCEF is proud to partner with Mr. Shawa and is humbled by his example of generosity and dedication to the people of Palestine.
