Patriarchs and Heads of Churches in Jerusalem issued a statement calling for prayer and for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and to urgently resume a peace process based on the International Law.
We, the Patriarchs and Heads of Churches in Jerusalem, call for an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. The situation is dreadfully deteriorating and causing a humanitarian crisis, especially in Gaza. Innocent lives have been lost, people have been displaced, children and women have been targeted, and some houses have been shelled, having the inhabitants inside. Hospitals are overcrowded and lack the necessary medical supplies. The consequences of the trauma on children are dramatic.
Many Israeli families live under fear because of rockets launched by Hamas.
We pray for all the innocent victims and for their families.
Therefore, we join our voices to all the peace-makers on both sides and ask for an immediate cease-fire and for the urgent resumption of peace talks. We call upon the UN to intervene to stop this vicious cycle of violence and bloodshed, to totally uplift the siege of Gaza and to urgently resume the peace process that should be based on the International Law.
Please pray for peace and reconciliation.
