Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State Dr. Rajai Muasher met Wednesday, September 19, at the Prime Ministry with Bishop of Tarbes and Lourdes in southwestern France Monsignor Nicolas Brouwet and the accompanying delegation currently on a visit to Jordan.

During the meeting, attended by Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Lina Annab and Secretary General of the Ministry Issa Gammoh, Muasher said that Jordan is a model for common living and religious tolerance in the region, where all groups of Jordanian society live in an atmosphere of love and harmony.

Stressing the importance of Jerusalem to all religions, Muasher referred to the efforts exerted by His Majesty King Abdullah II, regarding his custodianship of the holy places in the city, the preservation of the Arab identity of Jerusalem, in addition to providing support and protection for Islamic and Christian holy sites.

For his part, Bishop Brouwet praised the efforts exerted by Jordan in caring for the holy places in the Kingdom. He also pointed to the historical and religious importance of Jordan as it abounds with several holy places which many people aspire to visit. During the meeting, discussion touched on the importance of coordination and cooperation in the field of exchange of religious visits and the establishment of comprehensive religious tourism programs for religious sites in Jordan, Jerusalem and Bethlehem.

The meeting was attended by Latin Patriarchal Vicar for Jordan Bishop William Shomali, Director of the Catholic Center for Studies and Media in Jordan Fr. Dr. Rif’at Bader and Fr. Bashir Bader.
