Latin Patriarchal Vicar for Jordan Bishop William Shomali welcomed on Monday, October 14, Jordan’s newly appointed Ambassador to France Makram Mustafa Al-Qaisi at the Latin Vicariate in Amman.

The meeting, attended by Fr. Anton Hreimat and Fr. Tuma Malak, included a review of relations between Jordan and the Catholic Church at a time when Jordan is one of the few countries in the world that has received four Popes on its soil, as well as being assiduously active alongside the Vatican in the fields of promoting and enhancing dialogue among various cultures and religions.

Discussions also dealt with promoting Christian religious tourism to Jordan, being part of the Holy Land, as it includes several Christian historical sites most notably the Baptism Site of Lord Jesus Christ on the River Jordan.

It is to be noted that Ambassador Makram Al-Qaisi has steadily sought to add the Baptism Site to the list of World Religious and Heritage sites.
