Jordan: Crown Prince Hussein joins Karak Christian community in lighting Christmas tree

On Sunday, December 4, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Hussein joined members of the Christian community in Karak Governorate as they celebrated lighting the Christmas tree to mark the start of the holiday season.

Speakers at the ceremony–attended by Christian leaders, lawmakers, and representatives of the local community in Karak–celebrated the values of fellowship and interfaith harmony that characterize Jordan.

Member of the Lower House of Parliament Haitham Zayadin expressed the people of the governorate’s appreciation for the participation of His Royal Highness Prince Hussein with the Christian communities in Karak in lighting the Christmas tree. He also referred to the relentless efforts undertaken by His Majesty King Abdullah II to protect Islamic and Christian holy sites in noble Jerusalem.

For his part, Director of the Karak Awqaf Sheikh Hmoud Al-Damour referred to the prevailing common living that brings together Christians and Muslims in Jordan. He also pointed out the common denominators that constitute a solid ground for convergence of religions and mutual respect.

Parish priest of the Latin Church in the township of Smakiya Fr. Akram Musharbash welcomed  His Royal Highness prince Hussein and his participation in  the lighting the Christmas tree.

The tree lighting ceremony included a musical performance by the Mutah University choir. In attendance were  a number of Christian clergymen, members of the Lower and the Upper House of Parliament of Karak Governorate, Karak governor, and Karak notables.
