In the afternoon at 6:00 p.m. on Lazarus Saturday, 30th March / 12th April 2025, the blessing of the palms took place at the Holy Monastery of Bethphage, officiated by His Beatitude, our Father and Patriarch of Jerusalem, Theophilos III.
Following the blessing, in accordance with pilgrimage tradition, the Palm Sunday procession was held, beginning at the aforementioned Holy Monastery and led by His Eminence Archbishop Aristovoulos of Madaba. The procession passed through Bethphage, continued through the Valley of Gethsemane, and concluded at the Holy Monastery of Saint Anne, entering the Old City through Saint Stephen’s Gate—also known as the Lions’ Gate—in commemoration of the Lord’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem, riding on the foal of a donkey.
