The Armenian Heritage Conference, organized by the World Council of Churches in partnership with the Swiss Protestant Church, addressed the consequences of the conflict in Artsakh/Nagorno-Karabakh with a focus on the protection of Armenian religious and cultural heritage, the human rights of the affected population, and the future security of the Armenian nation. The conference concluded its sessions on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, with a statement urging coordinated international action to safeguard these crucial aspects.
Over the course of two days, participants engaged in discussions covering historical and political perspectives, ecumenical viewpoints, international legislation, and personal testimonies. Armenian and foreign theologians, historians, and jurists illuminated the situation and the legitimate demands of the people of Artsakh. They called on the World Council of Churches, the Swiss Protestant Church, and other religious organizations to raise awareness of the Artsakh situation and to collaborate with all entities that can contribute to this vital cause.
Notably, with the blessing of His Holiness Catholicos Aram I, Catholicos of the Armenian Church, Holy See of Cilicia, and Honorary President of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC), and on behalf of the Holy See of Cilicia, His Eminence Archbishop Nareg Aleemezian, Prof. Teni Pirri-Simonian, Seta Khedeshian, Carla Khijoyian, and Mario Nalbandian participated in the conference.
