Experts will address the differences in the theological and political views of mainstream evangelicals and Christian Zionists at the 7th International Conference of the Holy Land Christian Ecumenical Foundation (HCEF),

At the 7th International Conference of the Holy Land Christian Ecumenical Foundation (HCEF), a panel of experts will address the differences in the theological and political views of mainstream evangelicals and Christian Zionists.  They will also touch upon the realities of Christian Zionism as it influences events in the Holy Land and creates obstructions to the peaceful resolution of the Arab-Israeli conflict.  Speakers on this topic include: Serge Duss, Director, Public Policy and Advocacy, World Vision; The Rev. John M. Hubers, Mission Programs Supervisor, Reformed Church of America; and Rev. Robert O. Smith, Pastor, St. John Lutheran Church, Coryell City, TX; Doctoral Fellow, J.M. Dawson Institute of Church-State Studies.

The Rev. John Hubers has served as Supervisor of Mission Programs Supervisor in the Middle East and Southwest Asia for the Reformed Church of America since 2001.  Rev. Hubers has published many articles relating to Christian/Muslim relations and Christianity in the Middle East in the Church Herald, the magazine of the Reformed Church in America.  He has also published several articles in The Other Side magazine on topics relating to Islam, the first Gulf War, and Christian/Muslim relations in Egypt.

Two of Rev. Hubers’ articles are available at the HCEF website.

1)  “Zion’s Christian Soldiers” is Rev. Hubers’ critique of Christian Zionism (a study guide for Reformed Church congregations).

2)  “Christian Zionism and the Myth of America” is the text of an address Rev. Hubers gave to the Middle East Council of Churches conference in Beirut, Lebanon (2002).

The Holy Land Christian Ecumenical Foundation, Inc. (HCEF) is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that provides support to the Christians of the Holy Land who live in Christian communities dating back in time to those who first heard Jesus Christ preach his gospel.  HCEF’s programs strengthen children’s education, create housing, provide job creation, and preserve the infrastructure of the traditional Christian handicraft industry.  HCEF Pilgrimages enable Western Christians to develop bonds of solidarity with their Christian brothers and sisters living in the Holy Land.
