A crowd estimated to be at least 3,000-strong turned out to watch the annual Christmas tree lighting in Manger Square in Bethlehem on Sunday night. Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Dr. Rami Hamdallah addressed the crowd, using the occasion to call for Palestinian unity, which he said is necessary “in order for Palestine to once again be a home of openness and a symbol of tolerance.”
Bethlehem Mayor Vera Baboun described her city as “a model of natural coexistence between Christians and Muslims, an example for the rest of the region.”
