As Israelis cheer for the deaths of innocent Palestinian children in Gaza, Pope Francis is begging for war and violence to stop in the Middle East.

On Sunday, during his Angelus address at the Vatican, Pope Francis made an off the cuff plea for Israel to halt the bloodshed that is wiping out Palestinians across Gaza, including hundreds of innocent children who have been slaughtered thus far.

The remarks were meant to commemorate the 100th anniversary of World War I and the millions who died fighting it. But Pope Francis went off script to decry the wars raging today.

“Brothers and sisters, never war, never war!” Pope Francis said in front of a solemn audience in St. Peter’s Square.

Pope Francis then made an impassioned plea for peace.

Stop, please stop! I beg you with all my heart, it’s time to stop. Stop, please!

Since hostilities began, Israeli Defense Forces have killed 218 children and left another 1,516 wounded. The total number of Palestinians killed stands at 1,058 and climbing. Most of the dead are civilians.

As the death toll continues to rise in Gaza, Israelis are increasingly being seen as the villains. The right-wing regime that is driving this war forward is giving Israel a negative image around the world. Images of dead children and video of Israelis gleefully chanting about these killings and watching the violence unfold while eating popcorn as if the war were a blood sport, is turning public opinion against them. Furthermore, Israeli academics and politicians have openly called for raping Palestinian women and committing genocide. Such calls are totally unacceptable and brings to mind the Nazi regime that did the same thing to Jews in Europe during the 1940s, which is why the state of Israel was created in the first place.

The Nazis destroyed Jewish homes and businesses, separated families, raped Jewish women and killed a million Jewish children. Overall, six million Jews were exterminated by the Nazis, all because of hate, bigotry, and a thirst for blood. It’s known as the Holocaust, which is what Palestinians are threatened with now by Jews who seem to have forgotten their own horrific past.

Israelis need to be careful and they need to stop this war before it becomes something the world can never forgive. The words of a Catholic Pope may not mean much to Israelis, but Pope Francis’ words are being echoed by people and nations around the globe. More innocent Palestinian civilians have been killed by Israelis than the military personnel they claim to be targeting. Israelis are cheering for the violence and many are now pushing for the IDF to commit war crimes to advance their extremist cause. Israel was created in 1948 because of the war crimes committed against Jews in Europe by the Nazis. If the people of Israel don’t stop this madness, they could end up losing their own country because of the war crimes they commit themselves and pave the way for the creation of the Palestinian state they have opposed for decades.
