Damascus – Maronite Patriarch, Cardinal Bshara Butros al-Rai, called Sunday for "political solutions to the obstacles at stake," while condemning "all those who supply weapons and money to fuel destructions, murders and displacement."
"We, the five Patriarchs of Antioch, are with you all, and we demand that injustice be lifted off our people; we demand peace and cessation of all wars; we call for political solutions, a dignified return of all displaced people to their homes, and we denounce injustice and the death of the world's conscience," said al-Rai.
The Patriarch's words came during the "Divine Liturgy" held in Saint Anthony's Cathedral in Bab Touma's Maronite Archdiocese in Damascus.
"Many people have sacrificed their blood, many martyrs have fallen, but their blood shall not go in vain," al-Rai went on. "Many have fled their homes, but their pain will not go in vain, for the Lord of history is God, not the masters of this world," he added.
"I am happy to be here with you, to join in the call for peace for our beloved Syria," al-Rai added, noting that "the world is in dire need of redemption amidst all the evil killings and sufferings."
"We are with you in our prayers; we are with you in everything; we carry the cause of our people in Syria, Iraq, Palestine and Yemen, and every country that is suffering; we carry their cause all over the world, demanding the lifting of injustice off our people and calling for peace and ending all wars," said al-Rai.
