Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas received in Ramallah, on Wednesday October 4, Apostolic Nuncio to Jerusalem and Palestine Archbishop Giuseppe Lazzarotto who presented to him Pope Francis’ ratification of the bilateral agreement signed in the Vatican on June 26, 2015.

The pontifical delegation included Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem Fouad Twal, Bursar of the Custody Fr. Ibrahim Faltas, and Father Emile Salaita, president of Latin Patriarchate Ecclesiastical Court in Jerusalem.
A Palestinian source said that “President Abbas explained the latest developments in the Palestinian territories, as well as in Jerusalem, and the oppressive measures being conducted against the Palestinian people.”

He thanked the Holy See, led by His Holiness Pope Francis “for recognizing the State of Palestine,” and expressed hope “that the remaining world countries, especially the European countries, would follow the same example and recognize the State of Palestine based on the pre-1967 borders.”

President Abbas also hoped that “Pope Francis would continue to pray for justice and peace in the Holy Land.”

The meeting was attended by senior Palestinian officials.
