On Wednesday, 9th/22nd February 2017, at the reception hall of the Patriarchate, there was a meeting of the Steering Committee and the Project’s Owner Committee, those in charge of the restoration project of the Holy Edicule of the Holy Sepulchre, i.e. His Beatitude our Father and Patriarch of Jerusalem Theophilos, the Custodian of the Holy Land Fr. Francesco Paton and the representative of the Armenian Patriarchate Fr. Samuel, Abbot of the Armenians in the Church of the Resurrection, at the presence of the Consul General of Greece in Jerusalem Mr. Christos Sophianopoulos.

At the meeting the Supervisor of the restoration project under the National Technical University of Greece, Mrs. Antonia Moropoulou presented on screen the restoration works before and especially during the last two months, underlining the following:

After this presentation, Mr. Nikolaos Moropoulos presented the financial report of the completed maintenance works, and mentioned that due to them, the first of the pillars that the English Commanding Government had placed for the stability of the Edicule has been removed, with the aim of removing all of these pillars, by 22nd March 2017, the day of the completion of the project and the opening of the Holy Edicule to the Three Major Communities.

To this relevance, mention was made of the contribution of the Greek Airline Aegean for the offering of free return tickets to the travelling Professors, Lecturers and technicians of the project from Greece to Jerusalem.

His Beatitude thanked warmly the present representatives of the company, the Cargo Manager Mr. Joseph Mastorantonakis, the Public Relations and Press Director Mrs. Stavroula Saloutsi, aiming in due course to honour accordingly the Owner of the Company Mr. Theodoros Vasilakis and his son Mr. Eutychios Vasilakis, at the ceremony of the completion of the project of the Holy Edicule on 22nd March 2017.
