AMMONNEWS – His Majesty King Abdullah II received on Wednesday, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, for a meeting where Jordan’s efforts to protect the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, and to maintain identity of the holy city as a symbol of peace, were reviewed.

During the meeting, His Majesty said Christians are an important and original part of the region and its civilization, adding Jordan represents a model of brotherhood between Muslims and Christians in the region and the world.

The meeting dealt with Jordan’s efforts to promote co-existence and dialogue among followers of religions.

In this context, the Archbishop of Canterbury praised endeavors of His Majesty to achieve peace and stability in the region and to promote dialogue and tolerance through several initiatives, including the World Interfaith Harmony Week, adopted by the United Nations UN as an annual event on the first week of February each year.

Chief of the Royal Court, the Advisor to the King and the Director of His Majesty’s Office, and the British Ambassador in Amman attended the meeting.
