His Majesty King Abdallah II of Jordan made a donation for restoring of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem at his own expense.
Patriarch of the Holy City of Jerusalem and all Palestine and Jordan, Theophilus III, has expressed his appreciation and gratitude on behalf of members of the Holy Synod, the Brotherhood of the Holy Sepulchre, the clergy and members of the Greek Orthodox Church of Jerusalem for His Majesty King Abdullah II who made a donation for restoring of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem at his own expense.
The restoration was executed two years after the completion of the Holy Sepulcher restoration in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, with a donation by His Majesty as well, who also had a contributions in restoring of the site of Baptism of Jesus.
“His Majesty’s donation is a practical implementation of the Hashemite custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and reflects the King’s personal commitment to the security and future of the holy city,” said Patriarch Theophilos III in a press release issued on Monday.
The Patriarch, who congratulated the Islamic nation on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan, hailed continuous and constant Hashemite effort in promoting common values, especially between Islam and Christianity.
Director of the Catholic Center for Studies and Media in Jordan Fr. Dr. Rif’at Bader said, “It is no strange for His Majesty King Abdullah, the Custodian of the holy sites who has been awarded the Templeton Prize and the Lamp of Peace Prize, to make generous donations for the Islamic and Christian holy sites in noble Jerusalem. This indicates that the Hashemite custodianship is not ink on paper but rather a reality embodied by noble deeds of goodness and dialogue led by His Majesty the King.”
