JERUSALEM – On Friday, April 2, 2021, His Beatitude Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, presided over the Passion of the Lord service at the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre.
During this time, the Church relives the trial, crucifixion and burial of Jesus. In the Holy Sepulcher, the faithful are gathered at Calvary as close as possible to the site of the Cross. A highlight in the heart of the Easter Triduum.
The day of Good Friday in the holy city continues at noon by Way of the Cross in the footsteps of Jesus, in the heart of the Old City. By mid-afternoon, the Franciscans celebrate the Tenebrae. Finally, Christians will conduct, in the Basilica of the Resurrection, a ceremony proper to Jerusalem, a Funeral Procession of Christ.
