Children today are growing up in an environment that may negatively affect their daily life and behavior. What is the reason? Rather, the reasons are many, and cannot be limited to a specific field or level that could be related to security, social environment, economy or health sector… But most important is to accompany and support them in overcoming everything that could hinder their growth and rob them of their childhood.
Hence, the Middle East Council of Churches, has been keen to organize, since its establishment, special programs for children aiming at preserving their rights and dignity.
The Service and Relief Department – Diakonia, Beirut office, and in cooperation with the international organization Norwegian Church Aid – NCA, implemented many psychosocial support sessions that sow hope in the hearts of children, at Our Lady Dispensary, affiliated to MECC and located in Sabtiyeh – Lebanon.
During the sessions, children participated in recreational games and activities that provides them opportunities to develop capacities and resources that can help them deal with the emotional, social, and practical challenges they may face in their lives.
The participants also learned to express themselves and built their self-esteem. They also discovered appropriate behaviors for interacting with their parents, siblings or others. It helped them consequently reduce the physical and emotional aggression towards themselves and others.
