WORLD – Created to provide support to the Christians of the Holy Land, the Order of the Holy Sepulchre has, ever since the re-establishment of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem in 1847, significantly contributed to supporting it, both financially and spiritually. Without it, many projects and initiatives of the Patriarchate would have never been made possible.
“The Holy Land is a place of great spiritual attraction for every Christian. It is the land of Jesus, where he announced the Kingdom of God. Prayer and support to the needs of those who make it a living Church gives us the opportunity to contribute to it, so that it remains a land of living stones.”
Cardinal Fernando Filoni – Grand Master of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre
Today, the Order of the Holy Sepulchre is made of approximately 30 000 Knights and Dames, from around 40 different countries. Organized in 60 lieutenancies, these members actively contribute, through prayer, donations and pilgrimages, to supporting the Christian presence in the land of Jesus. Their support is essential to the Latin Patriarchate, which, every year, puts together numerous projects aimed to solidify and strengthen the Church of Jerusalem.
“The Knights and Dames of the Holy Sepulchre are, especially for us, for the Latin Patriarchate, an essential institution. All the life of our Church is supported by them: they contribute to all the pastoral, humanitarian, education work that we do.”
