Members of the Jordanian delegation, numbering  87 youths, have participated in the second preparatory meeting prior to participating in the Lisbon World Youth Day 2023, which will be held in the Portuguese capital, Lisbon, from August 1 to August 6, under the slogan “Mary arose and went with haste” (Luke 1: 39), in the presence of His Holiness Pope Francis.

The Jordanian delegation will be led by spiritual guide of the General Secretariat of Christian Youth Fr. Wajdi Twal in addition to Fr. Wajdi Sahawneh, Fr. Salem Lolus, and Sister Helpis. Jordan participated for the first time in the World Youth Day in 1989 which was held in Spanish city Santiago de Compostela.

During the meeting, the discussion focused on the program of the trip, the necessary needs, and the transportation mechanism. Furthermore, Fr. Twal pointed out that the Jordanian delegation is scheduled to depart on Monday, July 26, and will join the Turkish and the Italian delegations that will then number 1,600 young men and women. Later, they will be divided into groups to exchange life and ecclesiastical experiences as well as to participate in activities at the parishes where they will reside prior to heading to Lisbon to join the rest of the participant youth delegations coming from all over the world, as their number is expected to exceed 200,000.
