Despite the extreme and unreasonable difficulties imposed on it and the people of Bethlehem the University remains committed to completing this academic year, which still requires one week of classes and one week of exams.  The spirit and determination of the staff and students remains remarkably strong in the face of the debilitating circumstances in which they must work.

At this critical time, Bethlehem University is asking all who are interested in higher education in Palestine to contact those who are who can make a difference to put pressure on the State of Israel to lift the daytime curfews in Bethlehem and surrounding towns to permit faculty and students to reach the university and complete this academic year.  Citizens can call or write to their representatives.  Government staff can make sure this information is passed on to those who can make a difference.  Israel’s attack on the “infrastructure of terrorism” has degenerated into an attack on the basic human infrastructure of Palestinian life including education.  This cannot be allowed to continue without challenge.
