As I am writing you, tanks and army carriers are heading toward the main square of Bethlehem, news say that tonight the Israeli army might burst their way into the church of the Nativity, May God prevent this, and enlighten those who still cannot see to distinguish between defensive acts and acts of rage and wrath and do something to stop them!

We are concerned not only about what has already happened but what will and could happen Tomorrow and in near future, The degree and amount of destruction is beyond the capacity of the local community given the already shattered structure during the past 18 months. Several emergency committees have been established by international organization as well as UN groups to immediately conduct an assessment of damages and the relief program necessary when and if the Israelis do pull out. Similarly many Church based organization are grouping to individualize intervention programs now and after the pull to, Caritas, CRS, ICC MCC and others.
The concern is that the Christian community by virtue of number and location would fall short of the target assistance and if not, the assistance would not adhere to its particular needs. The many private households that have been drastically affected by the recent incursion in the Bethlehem area require immediate attention. We should develop a parallel intervention program especially that private and government aid would intervene in different manner.
I believe the HCEF can play an efficient coordinating role amongst the different church groups and church organizations in the US, Canada and elsewhere and can mobilize immediately to conduct the field assessment necessary and provide recommendations as well as mechanism to channel support to varied church organization in the form of emergency cash assistance household rehabilitation, job creation, social and moral support programs to families and children, medical provision food supply.
It is imperative at this moment that you all share with us your vision and what could be done together further more, to invite and bring other groups on board, these who share the same concern and are willing to help.
