The Holy Land Partner Parish Committee of St. Paul Church, Cambridge, in Harvard Square, will host a Holy Land Day lecture/discussion event offered by the Holy Land Christian Ecumenical Foundation (HCEF) on Friday, October 8, 2010, 7:30-9:00 p.m.  Monmouth University professor Saliba Sarsar, Ph.D., will speak on “Becoming Servant Leaders: Do We Have What It Takes?”  Dr. Sarsar will skillfully guide the audience to a clear and compelling understanding of the biblical invitation to become “servant leaders.”  This event will be held at St. Paul Parish, DiGiovanni Hall, 29 Mount Auburn Street, Cambridge, MA.  A reception will follow.

Saliba Sarsar, Ph.D.

Experiencing the Six Day War as a child, Dr. Sarsar early committed his lifelong studies and work to conflict resolution, reconciliation, and peace building. Born, raised, and educated in the Old City of Jerusalem, Dr. Sarsar completed his elementary and secondary education at Collège de Frères and St. Joseph’s College.  He graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in political science and history interdisciplinary from Monmouth University and earned a Ph.D. in political science from Rutgers University, with a specialization in Middle East affairs. He is a frequent speaker on Middle East concerns and an active peace-builder in Arab-Jewish dialogue.  Also a well published writer and poet, Dr. Sarsar has authored several articles and commentaries on the Middle East and has published a recent book of poetry, Seven Gates of Jerusalem (Washington, DC: HCEF, 2010), that will be available at the event.  He is editor of Palestine and the Quest for Peace (American Task Force on Palestine

[ATFP], 2009); and co-editor with Hussein Ibish of Principle and Pragmatism: Key Documents from the American Task Force on Palestine(ATFP, 2006); and co-editor with Drew Christiansen of Patriarch Michel Sabbah-Faithful Witness: on Reconciliation and Peace in the Holy Land (New City Press, 2009).  He has received numerous awards and accolades for his work.  The New York Times featured him in “His Mission: Finding Why People Fight-A Witness to Mideast Conflict Turns to Dialogue and Peace.” Dr. Sarsar is Professor of Political Science (Middle East affairs) and Associate Vice President for Global Initiatives at Monmouth University, West Long Branch, New Jersey.

 

Dr. Sarsar is Secretary of the Board of Directors of the Holy Land Christian Ecumenical Foundation, a nonprofit organization that works to preserve the Christian presence in the Holy Land (www.HCEF.org).

A Holy Land Day is HCEF’s outreach to churches outside of the Holy Land to educate others about the lives of Christians living within the Holy Land.
