Baghdad – “The month of Ramadan offers a propitious time for fasting, prayer, repentance and to change mentality and behavior (metanoia), in order to live in peace with oneself and others”. These are the first lines of the letter that Chaldean Patriarch Louis Raphael I addressed to his Muslim compatriots, on the occasion of the holy month of Muslims, particularly characterized by the practice of fasting combined with prayer.
In the message, sent to Agenzia Fides, the Primate of the Chaldean Church expresses his feelings of solidarity and respect for all members of the umma Mohammad, and in tragic circumstances lived by Iraq urges them to live an “exceptional Ramadan” denying all forms of sectarianism, contributing to a “culture of reconciliation”, promoting “shared values of tolerance, proximity and friendship” and supporting in every way possible “peaceful coexistence”, based on dialogue and mutual respect. In the letter, Patriarch Louis Raphael also expressed gratitude to the Iraqi armed forces, and hopes that all Iraqi territories will soon be freed from the control of the jihadists of the Islamic State (Daesh).
