MCC Condemns Attack at Coptic Christian Cathedral in Cairo, Egypt

 

The U.S. Muslim and Christian Coalition (MCC) condemns the horrific, bloody atrocity that was committed at the Coptic Cathedral in Cairo, Egypt on Sunday, December 11.  This attack was not only against Christians, but also against all of humanity.  We offer our deepest condolences to the families who have been adversely affected, and we ask the world to pray with us-that we would not be frightened by the desperate act of the few, but rather that we would find courage and hope in the solidarity of the many; that we would be fortified and strengthened by each other and by God’s steadfast love during these trying times.

 

Sir Rateb Rabie, KCHS, MCC Coalition Chair and President/CEO of the Holy Land Christian Ecumenical Foundation (HCEF) stated, “It is with heavy hearts that we encounter the tragic news of yet another senseless act of violence and intolerance.  At the same time that we rightly call for justice, let us also renew our divine commitment to fellowship by doing as our spiritual forbearers have encouraged: by seeing God in each other, and in doing so, by allowing God’s grace to renew and restore our spirits.”

 

Also, Mr. Syed Moktadir, MCC Coalition Vice Chair and President of All Dulles Area Muslim Society (ADAMS) commented, “As evidence of extremism around the world seemingly mounts, we are called by our core spiritual beliefs as Christians and as Muslims to resist the temptation to cave into anger and mistrust, and instead, to temper our rage with faith, forgiveness, fortitude, and love.”   

 

It is a long and difficult path that stretches out before us, and it is only with God’s wisdom that we will be able to stay the course to work toward a true and lasting peace.  At this Christmas, we pray together for peace on Earth.
