JORDAN – The Union of Religious Congregations in Jordan held its first meeting on Friday, October 19, at the Visitation House in Dabouq in the presence of 50 nuns from various congregations in Jordan. The meeting titled, “The Challenges Facing the Consecrated Life” was held in a cordial atmosphere and included several discussions.
A morning prayer and a welcoming address by Sister Cecile Hijazeen, head of the Union of Religious Congregations, marked the start of the session. In her address, Sister Hijazeen welcomed Latin Patriarchal Vicar for Jordan Bishop William Shomali and nuns. She also asked the nuns to continue their efforts in accordance of the policies drafted by the former heads of the union, namely Sister Antoinette Matar, Sister Sarah Ghneim, and Sister Marie-Jane Salaytah.
Bishop Shomali presented a lecture titled, “The Challenges Facing the Consecrated Life” which listed several experiences impacting the life of the consecrated. This was followed by panel discussions characterized by active and positive reactions on the part of the nuns.
The meeting was concluded by Bishop Shomali celebrating Holy Mass which was concelebrated by Fr. Rashid Mustrih. Prayers were said in different languages for the Church, the consecrated life as well as peace in the Middle East and the Holy Land.
