As a part of its ongoing humanitarian work to develop health awareness among members of the society, the Middle East Council of Churches has carried out awareness-raising activities on how to prevent infectious diseases and to take precautions against the Coronavirus. It was executed for students, aged between 6 and 14 years old, in schools and educational institutes in Rural Damascus, Homs and Aleppo. The students learned the correct ways and timing of washing hands to prevent the infection.

In addition, the MECC team distributed, brochures and games that will constantly remind them about the importance of personal hygiene and handwashing.

Noting that MECC had previously rehabilitated the WASH facilities in five targeted schools in Rural Damascus, Homs and Aleppo, in which they implemented these awareness raising activities and distributions.

One of the elementary grade students, aged 7 years old, said,” Mickey Mouse visited us at school and taught us how to wash our hands correctly with water and soap, and the correct timing of washing. We learned a very nice song and received a gift, it was a toy about hand washing”.
