Madaba, Sept. 27 (Petra) — Deputizing for HRH Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, the Crown Prince, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Nayef Al Fayez on Monday launched the phase one of a project to rehabilitate the Christian pilgrimage route in Mount Nebo in the Madaba governorate, southwest Amman.
Al Fayez said the project is a key tourist and religious landmark in the city, and aims to provide basic services to visitors and promote tourism products in the governorate, stressing the importance of the cultural and historical heritage of the Madaba governorate.
The ministry’s secretary general, Imad Hijazin, explained that the project will go through several basic phases, including preparing the 29.8 km long Christian pilgrimage route, creating investment opportunities, and devising a plan for promoting and marketing the site.
The launch of the project coincides with two occasions; World Tourism Day and selecting Madaba’s as the 2022 Arab Tourism Capital.
