JORDAN – On Tuesday, November 21st, 2023, His Beatitude Patriarch Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem arrived in Jordan and will be spending time with the faithful there for a week.
After he ended his first Pastoral visit as a Cardinal to Cyprus, the Cardinal saw fitting to also go and check on the Parish in Jordan, which was originally scheduled for Oct 26 and Oct 27. Yet all have been canceled due to the war, and no celebrations were held, he just plans on meeting with the Priests, Religious Sisters, and Parishioners to discuss Church matters, and the political situation in the area.
Mgr Jamal Daibes, Patriarchal Vicar for Jordan, Mgr Giovanni Pietro Dal Toso, Apostolic Nuncio for Jordan, and Patriarch Emeritus Fouad Twal welcomed His Beatitude Patriarch Cardinal Pierbattista, where he presided over presided over a Mass at the Sweifieh Parish – Mary of Nazareth Church, in the presence of the Patriarchate Priests. After Mass, His Beatitude met with the Priests and discussed Ecclesiastical and political developments, especially what the country is going through and in Gaza specifically. He highlighted the importance of finding solutions and allocating ways to help the parishioners in the Holy Land to be able to recover from the war. While emphasizing that we should never lose sight off of hope and keep peace and reconciliation as the pillars of our work.
