On International Women’s Day, which fell on 8-3-2024, The Holy Land Christian Ecumenical Foundation organized an International Women’s Day activity at Birzeit Cultural Community Center in the presence of (100) people to enhance the role of steadfast and persevering Palestinian women, and to celebrate all their achievements, sacrifices, courage and strong will that defied all odds. we all stand in appreciation and respect for the women of Palestine, especially the proud women of Gaza, who continue to struggle for freedom and justice.
Sir Rateb Rabie, KCHS, President, and CEO, remarked, “On International Women’s Day, the Holy Land Christians Ecumenical Foundation reflects on the importance of honoring and celebrating Palestinian women globally, with a special emphasis on the resilient women of Gaza. These women serve as powerful examples of the human spirit’s resilience, tirelessly advocating for truth, peace, and justice. Despite ongoing conflict and hardships, including the current Israeli offensive, they remain steadfast in their call for an immediate ceasefire. Their unwavering dedication to their community showcases incredible strength and their capacity to effect meaningful change.
Mrs. Najwa Khoury, HCEF’s Programs Director, delivered a heartfelt speech, requesting a moment of silence for Palestinian martyrs, especially those in Gaza. She lauded the resilience and determination of Gaza’s women in the face of adversity, recognizing them as pillars of strength and dignity, deserving of utmost respect.
Mayor Diana Sayej Nasser of Birzeit devoted her speech to the courageous women of Gaza, expressing deep admiration and respect for their endurance, patience, and resilience amidst the harsh realities of war. She highlighted that this occasion reflects the global struggle of women for equality, opportunity, and rightful recognition in all life aspects. She concluded by saluting every mother, sister, and wife for their tireless perseverance and steadfastness.
Mayor Nasr Al-Atari of Atara highlighted the remarkable resilience and leadership of Palestinian women, excelling across various fields even amidst severe adversities like violence and deprivation faced by the Palestinian community. He noted the serene resilience instilled in Gaza’s women despite these trials and voiced hope for a future with liberated religious sites and Jerusalem as the capital.
Additionally, Mr. Majid Shreiteh, Head of the Public Relations Department at the Directorate of Education, underscored the vital role of women in society, development, and education.
The event showcased a variety of activities from Birzeit Basic Girls School – UNRWA, including a presentation on Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa by students from Tala’a Al-Nour School and Kindergarten. Additionally, first and second graders from Beit Al-Rabea School collaborated with Al-Majida Wassila Girls School to contribute pieces on children in Gaza, under the coordination of Director Sawsan Wasfi. HCEF extends its gratitude to the Birzeit and Atara Municipalities, the Accountability Committee, and Beit Al-Rabeeh School for their significant contributions and for honoring the center and Mrs. Najwa Khoury with their thoughtful gestures.
