The day after the start of the ceasefire in Gaza, the Custos of the Holy Land, Fra Francesco Patton, and the Patriarch of Jerusalem of the Latins, Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, make an appeal to pilgrims from the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre, the heart of Christianity and a Jubilee site, to come back to visit the Holy Places with confidence.
“The pilgrimage is absolutely safe. It is time to look up and return to Jerusalem to also bring joy to the many Christian families who anxiously await the return of the pilgrims. Come back, we await you with joy and eager anticipation,” the patriarch said.
“The invitation is to be pilgrims of hope” the Custos added,“and to come to the Holy Land as pilgrims, to return to the roots of our faith, but also to express in a very concrete way, also through pilgrimage, our closeness to the small Christian community of the Holy Land. Come, we are waiting for you and we need you.”
