Monsignor William Shomali, Chancellor of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem has been named by His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI to be the Auxiliary Bishop to the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, His Beatitude Fouad Twal.
Monsignor William Shomali |
Msgr. Shomali is both well-loved and highly respected as a priest, an educator and friend. His dedication and commitment to Christ and those he serves is expressed in this statement he made upon receiving this humbling news, “I am moved by the confidence shown to me by the Holy Father, my Patriarch and the priests of my diocese. I promise to be a faithful servant of Christ and of my people, to work with all my strength to sustain the faith and hope of believers, to strengthen ecumenical and interreligious dialogue and to work for peace and reconciliation in this Holy Land, torn by divisions.”
Along with a degree in English Literature from the University of Yarmouk (Jordan), Monsignor Shomali earned his doctorate in Liturgical Studies from the Pontifical University of Saint Anselm in Rome and teaches the same subject at the Seminary.
Monsignor is the brother of one of our dearest friends and dedicated HCEF leaders Elias and May Shomali of Baltimore, MD.
We hope all of you will join us in congratulations and prayers for Monsignor as he gracefully steps into his esteemed role as Auxiliary Bishop of the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem.
