The 13th International Conference on the Holy Land Christians, The 2nd Investment and Business Conference, IT Sector Forum and the 1st Youth Conference, sponsored by the Holy Land Christian Ecumenical Foundation (HCEF), will be held Friday, October 28 through Sunday, October 30, 2011 in Washington, DC.
Awards Banquet and Conference Keynote Speaker Dr. Hanan Ashrawi, Executive member of the Palestinian Legislative Council, will be joined by other eminent religious, business, political and academic leaders from the U.S. and Palestine. The Conference sessions will be held at the National Presbyterian Church and the Washington Marriott Hotel in Washington, DC.

With the conference theme of “Investing in our Community, Building our Future”, some topics of the general session include: The Christians of the Holy Land, inter-faith dialogue, Peace Building/Interfaith Voices of Peace, The Long Overdue State of Palestine, with discussions surrounding the recent U.N. deliberations on Palestinian statehood, peace building and nonviolence movements in Israel/Palestine, and unique investment opportunities in Palestine.

The present situation of the Christians in the Holy Land and in Jordan, their access to sacred sites, the restrictions on their clergy, and economic opportunity will be discussed by Bishop William Shomali, Auxiliary Bishop of the Latin Patriarchate and Reverend Samer Azar, Pastor, Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd-Amman, Jordan. The panel will be moderated by Fr. Drew Christiansen, S.J., Editor-in-Chief of America Magazine.

Friday’s The IT Sector Forum, as a component of the 2nd Investment and Business Conference, will be devoted to the conference theme of community investment. The principal speakers will be Dr. Jihad Wazir, Governor of the Palestine Monetary Authority, Hashim Hani Shawa, Chairman of the Board and General Manager of the Bank of Palestine and Ammar Aker, CEO, Paltel Group. Dr. Wazir, Mr. Shawa and Mr. Aker will review current public and private initiatives for harnessing the human potential of a Palestinian state for the wellbeing of its people and the region.

Saturday, the general session of the 2nd Investment and Business Conference will be held from 11:30 – 12:45 pm and will befollowed by a 2:30 – 4:00 pm workshop on the unique investment environment and business opportunities in Palestine.
Sunday, from 10:00 am – 5:00 pm, a full day will be dedicated to the Investment and Business Conference for American and Palestinian business leaders who will explore these opportunities in depth.

In conjunction with the 13th Annual International Conference, HCEF will host its 1st Youth Conference for all Youth – Palestinian-Americans and Americans! This conference will highlight the Know Thy Heritage – (KTH) program launched in July 2011 by HCEF to strengthen Palestinian youth in the Diaspora in their knowledge and love of their cultural roots and identity. The program seeks to harness the limitless energy of youth to be Ambassadors for Palestinian aspirations and peace. The KTH participants of this summer’s program will speak of their experiences during their 6 weeks in Palestine.
The 1st Youth Conference includes a panel and workshop on Saturday, October 29, 2011.
The ‘Know Thy Heritage’ Panel will be held at 11:00 – 11:30 am with a 2:30 – 4:00 pm Youth Leaders workshop to follow.
The first 100 youth to register for Friday Youth Conference will receive a scholarship to attend the entire 13th Annual International Conference on Saturday. Registrations must be received by October 21, 2011 to take advantage of this scholarship. Register Online Now
HCEF Award Recipients
The 2011 Conference Awards Banquetwill be held Friday, October 28, 2011 at the Washington Marriott. The honorees will be: Dr. James Zogby, recipient of the Path of Peace Award, The Ajram Family Foundation willbe presented with the Living Stones Solidarity Award. Mr. Raja Khoury, President of Pillar Construction will receive the HCEF Award, and Mr. Elias and Mrs. May Shomali will be recipients of the HCEF President’s Award.
