RAMALLAH – On Wednesday, April 24, 2013, His Beatitude, Fouad Twal, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, praised the achievement of the outgoing Prime Minister Salam Fayyad in working for the good of Christian Churches. He visited the Prime Minister at his residence in Ramallah, accompanied by Bishop William Shomali, Auxiliary Bishop of Jerusalem and Palestine, and Father George Ayoub, Chancellor.
“We wish to acknowledge and thank Salam Fayyad for his contribution to the Palestinian people and the Christian Churches of the Holy Land” said Bishop Shomali. During this “au revoir” Salam Fayyad was awarded a Medal of the Holy Sepulchre in appreciation for all that he accomplished.
The Patriarch and his delegation discussed the role of the Catholic Church in the social arena with the resigning Prime Minister, in the presence of Mr. Hanna Hamireh, the representative of Christian Affairs of the Palestinian President, and Mr. Issa Qassisieh, the future Palestinian representative to the Vatican.
The Patriarchal delegation also requested for the necessary authorization to open the Catholic radio, soon to broadcast from Taybeh.
